The adventure begins . . .

The popularity of the outdoor lifestyle is visible more in the vehicles we choose to drive than in anything else.

The explosion in sales of sport-utility vehicles (SUVs) and other outdoor equipment is directly linked to this great love of adventure. More and more people are doing it, so why should you be missing out?

Driving a modern 4x4 to the shopping mall is easy; driving that same 4x4 on seemingly featureless sand is rather more difficult. With this proposal we aim to introduce you to the basics of off-road driving, starting off by helping you decide on the right vehicle specification for your needs, and the possible accessories you may want to consider.

Every off-road trip will be an adventure, but it will also be unpredictable, so there are some important things you should keep in mind before you venture off into the bush. We tell you what you should consider taking with you.

Away from the beaten track you’ll be faced with some easy obstacles and some not-so-easy ones.

And finally, yes, things can go wrong in the bush.
We give advice on handling some of the more common mechanical failures you’re likely to encounter.

So buckle up, lock your diffs, and aim for the wide blue yonder...

On Saturday the 5th November 2011, we invited a number of customers to join us at the Isuzu Off Road Academy training day. The aim of the day was to equip Isuzu 4x4 divers with the basics of 4x4ing. The day was well attended at the Zeewenwaght Wine Estate in Cape Town, and loads of fun was had.

Here are some of the comments from the drivers that attended:

Frans Nijeboer - Thanks Mike for arranging such a great event and obviously for inviting me and the others. It was a great experience and loads of fun…..After all the talk finally getting into the 4x4’s and being able to take the Isuzu D-TEQ’s thru their paces - 4L is a super special feature providing amazing capability - just have to learn to keep my feet away from pedals…. J

Winston Tuck - definitely experiencing the low torque uphill and downhill and knowing what these vehicles are capable of. The whole day was a great success from the minute we arrived there till we left well after 17h00 that night.

Etienne en Pam Jordaan - Ek wil net weereens baie dankie se vir Saterdag se Off-Road Academy en die akkommodasie reelings. Alls was wonderlik en 'n ongelooflike ervaring. Groete

Jasper Compion - Thank you for the invite and the memorable day that I enjoyed thoroughly. When it was time to go back for the wonderful lunch, I looked at my watch and realised it was 3 o’clock! But time flies if you are having fun! A BIG thanks for REEDS who sponsored the day. Thanks again.

Michael Roberts - It was an absolute blast – had loads of fun. I will definitely recommend the brand. Thanks

Jaun Du Plooy (Sales Exec from REEDS N1 City) - We were really well treated by Marius and Driving Dynamics. Marius was so knowledgeable with our product and was full of praise and such a great advert for our product. The videos we watched was very informative and all the technical data we received was well worth the effort of being there.
From the feedback I received from the customers and from personal experience it was unbelievable what we were shown and what the capability of the Isuzu were.

Many of the customers (themselves 4x4 owners and some for many years) learnt a lot and were shown how to really use a 4x4 and how to be able to get out of trouble when needed.
They had a whole section of how to use difflock, high range as well as low range 4x4. We were told when to use which option and also when not to use certain functions. Then we were taken for a drive to show us the capability of the high range and the low range. The off road ability of the Isuzu was amazing and effortlessly we were taken up and down mountain-sides without even so much as touching any part of the fuel pedal. The Isuzu with its amazing torque just did it all by itself. We went over dongas and through ditches and over boulders and not once did we even have to accelerate or put down more power. We went down steep declines and even steeper inclines with both our feet flat on the ground and the Isuzu doing it all for us we just had to steer!!
We were then treated to a lesson in how to drive through deep and soft sand and once again we were astonished at what we could accomplish behind the steering of the amazing ISUZU. It was like child’s play driving through the sand and when we got stuck it was without any effort to put it in low range and get ourselves out of trouble.
After the day we were treated to an amazing late lunch and Marius handing us our Certificates for the day.
Then it was just sitting down with a glass of wine and reflecting on the amazing day and what we could accomplish and with our thoughts of where next we could go with our ISUZU's and how much fun we will have in the future now that we know what they are capable of!!
We are hoping to host a very relaxed day in the “Atlantis Dunes” for ISUZU 4x4 owners in Dec 2011 – if you would like some more details please mail:  mikep@reeds..co.za
