Robust Isuzu delivers on its promises - 2009-10-27
There can be no doubt that over the past 36 years, Isuzu bakkies have become an icon within the South African landscape, providing those all important characteristics of being tough, durable and reliable.
From humble beginnings to their emergence as an iconic brand and best seller, the truth is there for to all to see when it comes to a product that delivers on its promises.
From double cabs to the recently launched extended cab, as well as the traditional single cab workhorse models, the brand provides something for anyone that is looking for a die-hard, rugged, quality bakkie.
For fleet, small and medium business owners, as well as farmers and others in the agricultural industry, the KB250 long wheelbase (LWB) and KB250 Fleetside with air-conditioning single cabs have proven themselves over and over again to be indispensable business tools.
Both these workhorse models feature mudguards to protect against stone chips, a low maintenance black grained front bumper and wheel arch protectors. Making light of any heavy duty task at hand is easy with strengthened sheet metal applied in critical areas that protects the KB against rough terrain and harsh conditions, while contributing to its overall rigidity and tough appearance.
Diesel technology has always been an Isuzu stronghold over the years and the 250 diesel model has been key in establishing the company’s reputation. The 250 workhorses feature a 58kW engine that produces 170Nm at a low 1800r/min along with direct injection which in turn leads to better fuel consumption.
According to tests by vehicle rental company Avis, both models use just 9l /100km, which is the best in the workhorse class in SA. The fuel tank capacity of 76l means an estimated 684km per tank, depending on driving conditions and load.
Of course we are talking about workhorse models here, so their load carrying ability is crucial when selecting the optimal tool for your business.
It is vital when it comes to that crucial bottom line and it translates into fewer trips and more income per kilometre. The Isuzu s feature a load box length of 2,363m and width of 1,621m, which means tons of space — once again claimed to be best in class in terms of length and width. Furthermore, payload on the 250 long wheelbases is also best in class at 1244kg.
Apart from three-point adjustable seatbelts, head restraints, door impact protection bars and a lock on the spare wheel, the Isuzu workhorses feature a brake load sensing proportioning valve that increases safety and braking stability when carrying a load.
Fleets, small and medium business owners also have reason to rejoice with operating costs of only R2,39/km on the 250 long wheelbase model (as calculated via the Automobile Association formula). Backup is also excellent in the form of a five-year/90000km service plan and a class leading five-year/ 120000km warranty that include roadside assistance.
Resale values after four years also look positive with the Isuzu projected to retain 55% of its purchase price after this period.
Service intervals are scheduled every 12 months or 15000km and a five-year anti-corrosion warranty is included. The highly competitive pricing on the 250 long wheelbases is R173900 and R187100 for the Fleetside model with air- conditioning.
