5 NEW AUTOMATIC ISUZU BAKKIES TO BE RELEASED IN 2020

If you prefer the convenience and comfort of an automatic bakkie, we’ve got some really good news – Isuzu Motors South Africa will be releasing five brand-new auto derivatives in the Isuzu D-MAX range in 2020 due to increased demand from discerning consumers throughout the country.

Dominic Rimmer, senior vice president of technical operations at Isuzu Motors South Africa, was quoted as saying the expansion of the range is a proactive reaction towards the shift in buying trends among SA's pickup-driving public, who are increasingly opting for automatic gearboxes in recent years. "There has been a huge upswing in the demand for automatic bakkies, and the introduction of the six-speed automatic transmissions in the D-MAX 3.0-Litre models in 2018 was extremely well received," he said.

As such, Isuzu Motors South Africa decided to expand its automatic line-up to include variants of a selection of its D-MAX 250 models, including the X-Rider model, the mid-level LE, as well as the tough-as-nails Hi-Ride. According to Rimmer, the five-speed gearbox that has been developed prior to this roll-out has been tailored to give Isuzu drivers improved performance at affordable running costs, and will vastly improve the driving experience in congested environments like city roads, etc.

The five new D-Max models that will be available from 2020 onwards includes the:

  • D-MAX 250 HO EXTENDED CAB HI-RIDE. The brawny Isuzu D-MAX 250 X-Rider is now available with a five-speed automatic transmission.
  • D-MAX 250 HO DOUBLE CAB HI-RIDE. The D-MAX 250 Hi-Ride workhorse is now also available in automatic, boasting an innovative collection of safety features to boot.
  • D-MAX 250 HO DOUBLE CAB LE. The trusted 100 kW/320 Nm 2.5-litre intercooled turbodiesel engine of the mid-range D-MAX 250 LE has now been paired with a five-speed automatic transmission.
  • D-MAX 300 DOUBLE CAB HI-RIDE. New to the Double Cab range in a Hi-Ride trim-level is the addition of a 3.0-Litre automatic model paired with a 6-speed automatic transmission.
  • D-MAX 250 HO DOUBLE CAB X-RIDER. The much-revered D-MAX Extended Cab variant also benefits from the addition of the five-speed automatic on the 250 Hi-Ride 4x2.
