THE ALL-NEW ISUZU D-MAX BAKKIE IS REVEALED

Ladies and gents, gather round, we’ve got some very exciting news! The much-loved Isuzu D-Max is getting an upgrade for the first time in 8 years, and the launch of the all-new bakkie caused quite a stir when it was recently unveiled in Bangkok, Thailand. The release date for South Africa is yet to be set, but we thought we’d let you in on a few of the specs in the meantime.

Here’s what SA Isuzu enthusiasts can expect when the new D-Max is rolled out on local showroom floors:

  • Greater use of high-tensile steel that makes the body of the bakkie 20% more rigid than before.
  • A variety of improvements to the suspension, steering and braking systems.
  • A revised version of the 4JJ1 3-litre turbodiesel that delivers 140kW and 450Nm (previously 130kW and 380Nm).
  • An overhauled version of the Isuzu D-Max 1.9-litre turbodiesel engine.
  • A beautiful four-wheel drive experience facilitated by improved power, quicker shift times between RWD and 4WD, as well as high and low, PLUS an electromagnetic rear differential lock.
  • Reimagined interior design with a more upscale appearance, including a 23cm infotainment screen.
  • And that’s just the tip of the iceberg!

According to the local Isuzu division, the hope is that the D-Max for local release will be built right here in South Africa. "We are currently engaging with Isuzu to build the next generation bakkie and trucks in South Africa and anticipate that we will get the final approvals for this investment later this year," the Isuzu SA representative said.
