5 INNOVATIVE SAFETY FEATURES THAT SET THE OPEL ADAM APART

Over the past few years, the OPEL Adam has managed to cement a firm reputation as one of the most popular micro-hatch vehicles in South African, and with good reason – this good-looking city car comes with a whole host of bells and whistles that are normally reserved for commuter hatches with far heftier price tags.

At REEDS, we’ve come to understand that SA motorists are very focussed on vehicle safety, and this is one of the reasons why the sought-after OPEL Adam flies off our showroom floors with such predictable regularity. After all, it managed to score a four-star rating in the Euro NCAP crash-tests back in 2013. Here are a few of the safety features that we like to point out to prospective buyers at our branches throughout Cape Town:

OPEL ADAM: 5 IMPORTANT SAFETY FEATURES YOU SHOULD KNOW ABOUT

  • Comprehensive airbag system. The Adam's airbag system comprises of front airbags in both the steering wheel and instrument panel; an airbag in each of the front seat backrests; as well as an airbag in the roof frame on each side. Once inflated, these airbags cushion the impact of a collision, reducing the risk of injury to the bodies of occupants considerably.
  • De-activation switch on the passenger airbag. This switch allows car owners to deactivate the front passenger airbag system when they need to install a child restraint system on the front seat next to the driver.
  • Electronic Stability Control (ESC). This driver support system operates in combination with Traction Control (TC), reducing engine output and braking wheels individually if the car starts to swerve.
  • Hill-Start Assist (HSA). Starting your car against a hill or incline has never been this effortless. This system allows the driver to move away at the optimum point simply by controlling the accelerator, instead of managing manual clutch control.
  • Side blind-zone alert. This system detects and reports objects on either side of the Adam, within a specified 'blind spot' zone, alerting the driver with a visual prompt in the exterior mirrors.

DID YOU KNOW? In 1964, OPEL became the first European manufacturer to establish a modern design studio. This allowed them to pool the talents of their designers in order to drive innovation.
